A Luling woman walking on
the west bank levee Wednesday evening was fatally struck by a four-wheel
all-terrain vehicle. She died Thursday. The man driving the vehicle

In what Sheriff Greg Champagne
is calling a “unique” operation, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s
Office has rounded up and arrested 26 people suspected of drug possession

meeting was bittersweet for school system employees as they bid farewell
to long-time board member Ronald St. Pierre. St. Pierre has represented

School officials and residents
of Norco celebrated the open house of the Norco Community Education
Initiative Thursday at the Adult Education Center on Apple Street.
The initiative is the result of a $350,000 donation made back in February

One of the more well-known
traditions of Christmas brought from settlers from Northern Europe
is the construction of edible houses made of gingerbread, icing and
assorted candies. Candy cane fences, gum drops, and large slabs of
the dark molasses cake create an image in the minds of children of
a winter wonderland where everything is edible. |

Public
works gets leeway in subdivision approvals
The St. Charles Parish Public
Works Department has a little more leeway in determining the layout
of future subdivisions. An ordinance passed by the parish council
Monday night grants the director of public works power to approve
of trees and shrubbery planned in the construction of a subdivision.

Humane
society granted on-site vet
The St. Charles Parish Humane
Society got good news about expenditures Monday night from the St.
Charles Parish Council. The council voted unanimously to pass an ordinance
that will allow the humane society to hire a part-time on-site veterinarian.

grants awarded from Norco Community Fund
Grants ranging from $1,800
to $9,700 have been awarded from the Norco Community Fund to nine
organizations serving the Norco Community. The grantees will be honored
at a noon luncheon on Friday, December 6, 2002 at the La Maison Magnolia
Reception Hall. |
