10. Coleman prison opens in Killona
The Nelson Coleman St. Charles Parish Correctional Center was dedicated with a mid-morning ceremony on the facility grounds. Remarks were made by several parish officials including Parish President Albert Laque, Councilman Barry Minnich, Judge Emile St. Pierre, D.A. Harry Morel, Jr. and Sheriff Greg Champagne.
Dec. 22, 2001 Angel brings $5,000 to HOSTS program
Mary “Betty” Braun, recognized as one of the angels of St. Charles Parish, brought $5000 to the J.B. Martin HOSTS program during a ceremony Wednesday morning.
Dec. 22, 2001 School board meets on reapportionment
Members of the school board decided Wednesday night to hold a public hearing on the eight district plan that was approved at the last meeting. In November, the school board voted to create an additional district on the eastbank, equalizing the number of districts on each side of the river at four.
