August 11, 2001 Crash in Ormond kills two teens By Blake M. Petit Two east bank teenagers were killed early Thursday morning when their car went off the road in Destrehan. Brad Hennig, 18, of 111 Acadian Lane, Destrehan, and Lindsey Cerise, 17, of Dianne Place in St. Rose, died after the vehicle ran off of Ormond Boulevard. The vehicle ran into the median and struck a planter box at about 3:38 a.m. The vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina, continued further, struck a tree and flipped over. Cerise was transported to Kenner Regional Hospital and Hennig was transported to St. Charles Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. There were two other passengers in the vehicle. Dane Kopcke, 18, of St. Rose, was no injured in the accident. Matthew Swiber, 17, also of St. Rose, was taken to St. Charles Hospital and released. All three passengers were in the back seat and police are investigating the possibility of a fifth individual who left the scene. The teenagers were returning home from Swamp Island, a lounge in Metairie, and were driving a car registered to Lisa Smith and Jermaine Harmon, 210 Cambridge Drive, LaPlace. “Speed is obviously a factor,” said Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Pat Yoes, “and although the incident is under investigation, alcohol appears to be a factor as well.” Blake M.
