into an agreement with five other parishes to create a River/Bayou

Cloning
bill causes concern in Louisiana legislature
A ban on human cloning,
which was passed nearly unanimously on April 14 in the Louisiana Senate,
has caused concern for state pro-life leaders. The bill, SB 298 by
Senator Donald Hines (D-Bunkie), does not explicitly ban the use of
cloning to make human embryos for destructive experimentation without
any limits. |

students want to improve East Bank Bridge Park 'infinitely'
Few people would dispute
that all children deserve a safe place to play. Even fewer would take
it upon themselves to see that right guaranteed, but a group of Louisiana
State University Health Sciences Center students are trying to make
the East Bank Bridge Park in Destrehan just such a place.

Nile detected in 30 Louisiana birds
It was announced Wednesday
that nine additional dead birds have tested positive for West Nile
virus, bringing the total number of infected specimens to 30. The
birds have been collected from all areas of the state; however, no
humans have tested positive for the disease this year.

board adopts millage rates for 2003
At their monthly meeting
Wednesday night, members of the St. Charles Parish School Board voted
to adopt millage rates for the 2003 tax year. The rates are applied
to assessed property values each year. |

a piece of land adjacent to the church for a future cemetery has caused
contention with a neighboring landowner. Annabel Hogan, who owns nearby
residential lots voiced her opposition to the cemetery at last week’s
planning and zoning meeting. |
