Hahnville falls to Central Lafourche

Hahnville falls to Central Lafourche
Quarterback Logan Martindale was sacked for a seven-yard loss to end a third quarter drive.
When Hahnville running back Lynn Simmons ran a two-yard sweep and dove to put the ball into the end zone, it appeared the game was out of reach for Central Lafourche.

However, that play was called back on a holding call and the Tigers, two plays later and leading 17-14, missed a 30-yard field goal and turned the ball over to the Trojans.

With a little over two minutes left in the game, Central Lafourche began a long drive that included the team’s only two passes on the day, both of which went for first downs, and was capped with a 25-yard rushing touchdown by DaQuan Gray. Gray also scored on the previous series with a 50-yard touchdown and set up the Trojans first score of the game with a 57-yard rush in the first quarter.

After a long return by Mikquel Chest that brought Hahnville to midfield was called back on a block in the back, the Tigers’ offense took over with 35 seconds left in the game deep in their own territory and with no timeouts remaining.

Hahnville quarterback Logan Martindale, who had a career night through the air with double digit completions and two touchdown passes, completed a pass over the middle to tight end Tyler Lamers and got up to the line in time to spike the ball with two seconds remaining. On the next play, Martindale dropped back and threw incomplete to wide receiver Ricky Preston as time expired and Central Lafourche’s sideline erupted.

Although Central Lafourche got off to an early 7-0 lead, Hahnville was in charge for most of the game.

The Tigers scored their first points off a drive that began with a 60-yard kick return by Chest that gave the offense a short field to work with. Martindale, who got the start again as injured quarerback Dylan Keller sat out with a heavily bandaged throwing arm, completed two passes to wide receiver Brandon Singleton including a 25-yard clutch down the sideline. But the offense stalled at the five-yard line and kicker Craig Ford kicked a 20-yard field goal.

In the second quarter, Hahnville's Simmons would catch a short pass out of the backfield and take it 84 yards into the end zone to put the Tigers up 10-7, a lead which they took into halftime.

On the second series of the third quarter, Simmons converted a fourth down at midfield and then Martindale completed a 15-yard pass to Singleton before Lamers hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass to make the score 17-7.

Down two scores in the fourth quarter, the Trojans led back-to-back touchdown drives to take the win.
