Former Destrehan High School standout Ed Reed has been selected to play in the Pro-Bowl for the fourth time in his six seasons in the NFL.

“This was a disappointing year for us in Baltimore and it is never an easy road to travel when you are losing, but as a team we stuck together, and that is what I am most proud of” Reed said.

“To be selected with these other tremendous athletes is a real honor. I am very excited about the honor. This Pro Bowl thing never gets old.”

Reed was selected to the Associated Press 1st team All-Pro squad for the third time in his career and he was joined in the secondary by New England Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel, San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie, and Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders.

Another Wildcat standout, San Diego Chargers punter Mike Scifres, will get to play in his first ever AFC Championship game this coming Sunday against the New England Patriots.

The fifth-year NFL punter was a key player in the Chargers 28-24 upset.

Scifres punted the ball three times for an average of 59.0 yards per kick.

One of his towering punts went 66 yards and he consistently kept the high-powered Colts offense deep in their own territory during the contest.

When Scifres looks across the field during the AFC Championship game he may well think he is at a Louisiana football alumni party as the Patriots have four former LSU standouts in linebacker Eric Alexander, cornerback Randall Gay, halfback Kevin Faulk, and defensive end Jarvis Green in the lineup. Former Louisiana-Lafayette defensive back Antwain Spann is also a member of the Patriots squad.
