Concrete blocks on Hwy. 90 cause 2-car accident
Witness says blocks fell out of trailer, driver fled
Authorities are searching for the driver of a white pickup truck who allegedly caused a two-car accident after concrete blocks fell out of his trailer on Oct. 5, according to Louisiana State Police.
Misty LaFleur, of New Iberia, told police she was traveling westbound on Highway 90 in Des Allemands when she entered a curve near Scott Lane. LaFleur saw several large bricks in the roadway and was unable to avoid them. Her Honda Accord hit the bricks, causing her right tire to blow out.
Minutes later, Nicholas Cantrelle, of Larose, was driving his Chevrolet Impala in the left lane of the highway when he saw several concrete blocks scattered across the roadway. Cantrelle hit the concrete blocks, which broke his axle and forced his vehicle into the median.
Cantrelle’s Impala was totaled as a result of the accident.
LaFleur told police that a man driving a white pickup truck with a black trailer was trying to pick up the cement blocks from the roadway when her crash occurred. After Cantrelle ran into the cement blocks, LaFleur said that the man got into his truck and sped off.
Police have been unable to identify the driver of the white truck and witnesses were unable to get a license plate number.
