Sheriff announces Captain promotions

Sheriff Greg Champagne recently announced that he has promoted Rodney Madere as Captain over criminal investigations and Kenny DeCorte Sr. as Captain at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.

Captain Madere has been in law enforcement for over 21 years. He is the Assistant Chief of Detectives. His new position is over the criminal investigations unit, which consists of the Detective Bureau, juvenile, narcotics, crime scene, special operations, special response team, JTTF assignment and U.S. Marshall’s assignment. Madere is also the Commander of the Special Response Team.


Captain DeCorte has been in law enforcement for 25 years, with some of that time being with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. He currently serves as the Assistant Warden, which consists of daily operations at the correctional center and oversight of four shift commanders and their personnel. DeCorte also serves as the Assistant Commander of the Special Response Team.
