HHS lineman commits to Nicholls
Last week I reported that Nicholls State University was spending plenty of time recruiting some of the talent in the River Parish Region. Those efforts continue to pay off as they got a verbal commitment from Hahnville High School defensive tackle Jordan Thompson.
Thompson, a 6-2, 275-pound defensive lineman, was being looked at by McNeese State, UL-Monroe, Northwestern State (LA.), Southeastern Louisiana and Army before he selected the Colonels. Thompson gives the Colonels some needed size and athleticism for their interior defensive line.
Thompson was a 2nd team all-district selection in 2009. In 2010 he transferred to Hahnville from Central Lafourche High School in Mathews.
The Colonels currently have no players from Hahnville High School on their football roster.
Thompson becomes the third Hahnville High School football player to be given a college scholarship along with quarterback Brian Ensminger, who has verbally committed to Stephen F. Austin, and wide receiver Derek Howard, who has verbally committed to Memphis.
St. Charles Catholic High School tight end Harley Scioneaux has verbally committed to play for UL-Monroe University.
The 6-5, 215-pound tight end had an impressive senior season for head coach Frank Monica and the Comets and he also had an impressive week of practice leading up to the Bayou versus River Region All-Star game in December.
Scioneaux selected UL-Monroe over UL-Lafayette during the recruiting process.
Packers vs. Steelers showcases Louisiana talent
When the Green Bay Packers play the Pittsburgh Steelers in two weeks in the Super Bowl the state of Louisiana will be well represented.
Nine players, out of the 106 players on the two rosters, played high school football in the state of Louisiana and will play on Super Bowl Sunday.
Six high school standouts from the state of Louisiana are on the roster of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wide receiver Arnaz Battle (C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport), safety Ryan Clark (Archbishop Shaw High School), cornerback Keenan Lewis (O. Perry Walker High School), halfback Mewelde Moore (Belaire High School in Baton Rouge), cornerback Ike Taylor (Abramson High School) and wide receiver Mike Wallace (O. Perry Walker High School) are all on the Steelers 53-man squad.
Three high school stars from the state of Louisiana are on the roster of the Green Bay Packers.
Defensive Tackle Howard Green (Donaldsonville High School), fullback Quinn Johnson (West St. John High School) and All-Pro cornerback Tramon Williams from Assumption High School are on the roster of the Green Bay Packers.
