A 30-year-old Norco woman was robbed Aug. 16 while retrieving belongings out of her vehicle at 41 Barreca St., Norco.

At 4 a.m. the victim went to her vehicle to retrieve her laptop.  As she began to walk towards her residence, she heard what sounded like a bicycle approaching.  When she turned, an unknown black male grabbed her by the right arm and began to struggle with her in an attempt to take her laptop.

The victim screamed causing the subject to strike her and fled the scene.  This incident is still under investigation.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office,  detectives are investigating the case.  “We believe that this was an isolated incident and a “crime of opportunity” where the perpetrator just happened to be near when the victim walked out of her home at this early hour. No other burglaries, attempted thefts or robberies have occurred in this area recently. We also suspect that the perpetrator lives near the area where the crime occurred,” said Sheriff Greg Champagne.

“I urge everyone living in this area to be vigilant especially when going outside in the early morning hours. I have ordered extra deputies into the area for the near future.  Anyone with any information regarding this case should contact the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau at 783-1135,” concluded Sheriff Champagne.
