Hahnville falls to Lutcher, 42-28

Hahnville (2-1) got off to a quick start in the contest, taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Brian Ensminger threw a fade route to Desvon Joseph in the back of the endzone.

But Lutcher fired back, needing a little over a minute to tie the score. The Bulldogs used a heavy dosage of scat back Daniel Taylor, who ripped off a 46 yard run to start the drive. Taylor’s second carry went for 11 yards, and the junior walked into the endzone from 5-yards out to tie the score. 

On the Bulldog’s next possession, Taylor struck again. This time he caught a middle screen pass and flew 69 yards to pay dirt. Lutcher missed the extra point, but the Bulldogs led 13-7. A pair of personal foul calls on the Tigers led to Lutcher’s third score of the game, setting up a quarterback keeper by Ruston Matherne that put the Bulldogs up 19-7 with two minutes left in the first quarter. 

But Hahnville’s defense got them back into the game in the second quarter. While the Bulldogs were driving down the field, Matherne tried to pitch the ball to Taylor, but instead found Hahnville's Jordan Thompson. The big defensive lineman rumbled 25 yards to the endzone to cut into the Lutcher advantage, 19-14. 

Both teams traded scores in the remainder of the quarter, with Hahnville back Ahmad White scoring on a 39-yard run, and Lutcher taking back the lead soon after on a touchdown pass and two-point conversion that gave them a 27-21 lead at the break. 

A freak play in the third stretched the Lutcher lead to 35-21. When Matherne dropped back to pass, Hahnville linebacker Linzell Rhodes came through with his second interception of the night. But when Rhodes turned downfield to pick up some additional yards, the ball was knocked out of his hands into the awaiting arms of Lutcher’s Jarvis Landry. 

Landry would score on the play. 

Though Ensminger was knocked out of the game in the third with an ankle injury, the Tigers refused to give up. Coach Lou Valdin turned to White, who again found the endzone on a 20-yard scamper down the left sidelines to bring the Tigers to within a touchdown at 28-35. 

But the Bulldogs put the game away in the fourth, with a punt return going for a touchdown to give them a 42-28 win.
