Congratulations, graduate!
Dawn Matherne Meyer, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Eric J. Matherne of Bayou Gauche, completed her PhD at the University of California Los Angeles.


Meyer is a 1993 graduate of Hahnville High School where she received Rotary Club and VFW scholarships for college. She also received academic scholarship and TOPS scholar funding to attend Nicholls State University where she completed a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing in 1998. She completed a Master’s of Science in nursing as a family practitioner from the University of Texas in 2002. In 2006, she received the Chancellor’s Award, the most prestigious full academic scholarship offered at UCLA and a research grant from the National Health Nursing Research Institute. Meyer’s research focuses on a novel treatment of acute stroke patients, which may result in new therapies for thousands of stroke victims.

 

She has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego.
