Destiny Garcia was one of the top six finalists at the Poetry Out Loud 2010 Louisiana State Final National Recitation Contest on Saturday, March 6.

A senior at Destrehan High School, Destiny is the daughter of Angelia and Rodolfo Garcia.

The event was held at the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge and contestants vied for a trip to Washington, D. C., to compete in the National Finals by reciting selected poetry in 2 rounds.

Only the top six presenters competed in a 3rd round.  Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, the Louisiana Division of the Arts, and the Louisiana Office of the Lt. Governor. An event growing in popularity, the participation in this year's event was double that of last year.  Each student who advanced to the finals had won either a high school or a regional competition in Louisiana.
