Hahnville, Destrehan high schools select homecoming kings, queens

At HHS, Anthony Gullage, Jr. and Courtney Speice were bestowed with the honor of representing the school as king and queen.
Courtney is a resident of Bayou Gauche and is the daughter of Ellen and John Speice. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, InterAct Club and serves as a Kick-Off Mentor. She is also a member of the Lady Tigers soccer team.
Courtney was awarded magna cum laude and the Dow Award of Scholastic Achievement.
After graduation, Courtney plans to attend Louisiana State University to major in chemical engineering.
Anthony is the son of Stephanie and Anthony Gullage,Sr. of Luling.
He serves as a Kick-Off Mentor at HHS. Anthony plans to attend Nicolls State University.
At DHS Arielle Brown and Lucas Williams were crowned as king and queen.
Arielle is the daughter of Aaron and Darlene Brown of Norco. She is senior class president, and has also served as junior and sophomore class president.
She is a four-year honor student and JROTC member. She is currently Wing Commander and has served as Flight Commander, Squadron II Commander, Administration Officer, and Drumline Coordinator.
Arielle has participated in Culture Club, Prom Committee, Beta Club, Honors Scholars, National Honors Society and was a junior Powder Puff captain.
She has also been voted All-American Junior, Most Outgoing Junior and AFJROTC Overall Most Outstanding Cadet.
Arielle plans to attend a four-year university and major in psychology.
Lucas is the son of Veronica Williams and Luther Virgil of St. Rose. He is a four-year member of the Fighting Wildcats basketball team and has participated in track, talented art, and is on the Kick-Off Mentor Council.
Lucas has been the 2009 LSU Architecture and Design Summer Camp Scholarship recipient, the 2008 U.S. Achievement Academy for Art National Award Winner, and received the 2006 Cox Cable Black History Art Contest award.
He plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in architecture and art.

Woodruff wins District II seat by 20 votes - 639 views
The runoff election for the District II council seat ended Saturday night with a very narrow margin of victory for William "Billy" Woodruff over Mary Clulee.
