The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call on Oct. 3 from a person claiming that a 41-year-old Vacherie man had shot himself while visiting Lancelot Apartments in Luling.

The responding officer went to the apartment and discovered Gerald Dumas unconscious with a gunshot would to the chest.
Dumas was transported by ambulance to Ochsner Hospital in Kenner where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Responding officers were told that the shooting was a suicide, but St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are still investigating the death and have not determined whether the shooting was accidental, suicide or a possible homicide.
