‘Back to the Beach’ luau highlights senior events

The St. Charles Council on Aging has released its August calendar, which includes events open to St. Charles Parish seniors 60 years and older.

This month’s highlighted event includes the COA Fun Day, themed “Back to the Beach Luau”, on Friday, Aug. 28, along with contests, entertainment, exotic foods, and music and dancing.

The Fun Day will take place at the Hahnville Activity Center, located at 626 Pine St. from noon to 3 p.m. Call for reservations today at 985-783-6683.

The complete monthly list of August activities includes:

Literary Circle of Friends - This group meets every Friday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 145 Angus Dr. in Luling. Call Sharon at 985-785-1981 for lunch reservations and transportation.

Computer Club - This club meets every third Tuesday of each month from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the COA Conference Room, located at Hahnville Center.

Senior Dancers of St. Charles Expo Group - This group meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hahnville Center. The month’s practice is line dancing. Teacher is Judy Goutierrez. Call 985-783-3008 for lunch reservations and transportation.

Travel Club - This club takes a trip on the second Wednesday of every month. This month’s trip, on August 12th, is to the San Francisco Plantation in Garyville. It is by reservation only; call 985-783-6683 to reserve your spot.

•COA Cafe’- Friends, food, and fun every fourth Wednesday of the month. This month’s meeting, on Aug. 26, is at Palmetto’s Food Connection in Saint Rose. It is by reservation only. To reserve your spot, call 985-783-6683.

Exercise Classes - Attend these classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Fitness Club, located at 13117 Hwy. 90 in Boutte. The classes mainly focuses on Body Flow exercise.

Bidding 500 Card Club - This card club meets every Monday at the Hahnville Center with a beginners workshop from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and avid team play from noon to 3 p.m. A tournament will be held on Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 985-783-6683 for transportation.

Defensive Driving Course - AARP, the COA, and St. Charles Parish TRIAD Program are sponsoring a defensive driving course on Aug. 6 at the Hahnville Center. To register, call 985-783-6683. All classes are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for the one-day course is $14.

Scrap Booking with Anne Hymel - The group meets every Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the New Sarpy Activity Center, located at 150 Trosclair Dr. For more information, Call 985-764-2412
