Captain Herman Joseph Fonseca, Sr. passed on July 30, 2009 at the age of 71. He was a longtime resident and native of Des Allemands, and a member of the Back to the 50’s Jamaican Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Peltier Fonseca; two brothers, Eddie Fonseca and Ernest “White” Fonseca, Jr.; five sisters, Francis Camardelle, Linda Comardelle, Dale Fonseca, Jane Fonseca, and Hope Rhodes;  two sons and daughter-in-laws, Herman “Buddy” Fonseca, Jr. and Danelle Fonseca, and Clarence Fonseca and Holly Fonseca; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Fonseca Drews and Tom Drews; and his eight grandchildren, Thomas Drews, Jr. and Trey Drews, and Lori, Michelle, Blake, Matthew, Blaire, and Jesse Fonseca. 

Captain Fonseca was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Brunet Fonseca; parents, Ernest Fonseca, Sr. and Blanche Frickey Fonseca; and his two grandchildren, baby Drews and Jude Fonseca.

Visitation was on August 1, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The memorial service followed at the St. Gertrude Cemetery at 11 a.m.
