Woman flees through stranger’s home after trying to steal purse
Quaneisha Lewis, 17, of LL Court Dr. in Edgard, was arrested on June 11 and charged with purse snatching, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, violence against the elderly and resisting an officer.
Sheriff’s documents state that Lewis was arrested after attempting to steal a wallet from a 66-year-old Luling woman.
The victim was leaving the Winn-Dixie when Lewis approached her from behind, attempting to steal her wallet.
Lewis fled the scene after the elderly woman began to scream, but was soon apprehended by officers.
Lewis is being charged with unauthorized entry because she ran across Highway 90 and into a residence on Barton Avenue, exiting the home through the home’s back door.
“The sheriff urges all residents to take extra precautions when entering or exiting any store in the parish,” said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange. “We haven’t had any recent incidents at the Winn-Dixie in Luling, but we always like to remind people to be careful.”
LaGrange says that is wise for shoppers to have their car keys ready before exiting the store and to exit in a group of other shoppers.
