Council on Aging plans array of February events for parish seniors
Line dancing, driving courses and travel clubs all make the itinerary

•Celebrating New Orleans’ Personalities - The event is scheduled for Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Luling activity center. Call Sharyn for details at 985-785-1981.
•Black History Tea Party - Join friends for good conversation and tea on Feb. 10 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hahnville activity center. Call Lauren at 985-783-3008 for more information.
•Display, Presentation and Word Games for Black History Month - This event will take place on Feb. 12 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Norco center. Call Paula at 985-764-7025 for details.
•Heritage Program - This program is scheduled for Feb. 13 from noon to 1 p.m. at the New Sarpy activity center. Call Lois at 985-764-2412 for more information.
•Scrap Booking and Calligraphy Art with Anne Hymel - This group meets every Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the New Sarpy Activity Center. Call Lois at 985-764-2412 for more information.
•Travel Club - This month’s Travel Club will visit Jean Lafitte Museum and Bubba’s in Thibodaux on Feb. 11. Reservations are required. Call 985-783-6683 for details. The club will also begin taking reservations Feb. 12 for its March trip - Pleasure Bend Boat Tour of Lac Des Allemands and Trudy’s Restaurant in Kramer on March 11.
•Exercise Classes - The COA sponsors exercise classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Fitness Club located at 13117 Highway 90 in Boutte.
•Literary Circle of Friends - This group meets every Friday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 145 Angus Dr. in Luling. Call Sharyn at 985-785-1981 for lunch reservations and transportation.
•Senior Dancers Expo Group - The COA hosts line dancing ever Wednesday at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Hahnville center. Instructed by Judy Goutierrez. Call 985-783-6683 for transportation reservations.
•Bidding 500 Card Club - This card club meets every Monday at the Hahnville Center with a beginners workshop from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and avid team play from noon to 3 p.m. Call 985-783-6683 for transportation.
•Computer Club - This group meets the third Tuesday of each month at the COA conference room. Next meeting is set for Feb. 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visit them online at www.home.bellsouth.net/p/pwp-computerclub.
•Blood Pressure Checks - Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Norco center at 10:30 a.m. and the New Sarpy center at noon. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the Hahnville center at 10:30 a.m. and the Luling center at noon.
•Luling Center Coffee Social - The first Monday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
•New Sarpy Center Craft Workshop - The first Thursday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
•Norco Center LRC Game - The second Monday of the month from noon to 2 p.m.
•Hahnville Center Tea Party - The second Tuesday on the month from noon to 2 p.m.
•Orchestra Trip - The COA will travel to the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans on Friday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. to hear the sounds of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Tickets are $10. A lunch stop at the Piccadilly is offered at your own expense. Call 985-783-6684 for tickets and reservations.
•COA Cafe - Food, friends and fun the fourth Wednesday of every month. Next meeting is set for Feb. 25 at the Breeze Cafe on Red Church Drive in Destrehan. Reservations can be made by calling 985-783-6683.

FEMA deadline passes with no new flood rates - 618 views
After indicating they would release new flood insurance rates by June 1 to be applied to local homes under the Biggert-Waters Act, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has said the release of that information will now be delayed.
