When it comes to corruption, Republicans are ready to come to the aid of their Democrat brethren, probably with the philosophy of "There, but for the grace of God, might be my fate three weeks from now".
The FBI recently searched the House office of Democrat Representative William Jefferson after finding $90,000 in cold cash in Jefferson's Washington apartment.
The cash was in the form of marked 100 dollar-bills the FBI had passed to Jefferson in a bribery and corruption sting. Jefferson had been given a chance to cooperate with the FBI eight months ago but had refused, hence the latest raid on Jefferson's office.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert and House Majority Leader John Boehner, leaders of the Republican party in the House, have both come out strongly against the FBI's actions, claiming they violated the separation of powers between the two branches of government. In other words, if you are a U.S. Congressman you can lie, steal and engage in any other kind of corruption and be secure in the knowledge that your office will be treated with all the reverence of a church sanctuary. That is the Gospel according to Republicans Hastert and Boehner and Democrat Jefferson.
A reporter who wrote the article in a Washington area newspaper said, “Democrats were supportive of Hastert’s criticism and appear to support the Speaker in pursuing further action.” This is laughable.
If anyone needed proof that it is time to turn out of office most Republicans and most Democrats, this is it.
