The Hahnville High School Varsity and Junior Varsity soccer team is anticipating an exciting season for the remainder of the year.
The boys soccer team is a predominately young team, but they certainly have strong commitment and passion for the sport they love. The new soccer season began in October, with their first conditioning on Oct. 6.
The boys' scrimmage was against St. Charles Catholic on Nov. 6.
The team is looking forward to continue demonstrating their winning plays and excellent team effort with help from a few new faces. Even their coach, Alex Romero, is a new addition to Hahnville High School's staff. He is not only the boys soccer coach, but also a math teacher and a former kicker for the New Orleans Voodoo arena football team.
The 2008-2009 season is certainly an important one. The Hahnville High School boys soccer team has won their last few games with shut-out victories, outscoring St. Charles Catholic 3-0 and Independence 7-0.
Blake Samaha and Aaron Ford, the team captains, are both very motivated to bring the tigers another win. Congratulations to Samaha, who completed a hat-trick against Independence on Nov. 19, scoring three goals in one game.
The soccer team participated in the Pear River High School Invitational Soccer Tournament on Dec. 5 and 6. The Tigers defeated East Jefferson on Friday, lost Saturday morning to Pope John Paul 1-0, and defeated Shaw that afternoon 3-0 to advance to the finals. In the finals, the boys fell again to Pope John Paul 3-2. Overall, the team was a finalist in the tournament.
On Dec. 9, the Tigers defeated H.L. Bourgeois 4-1 at Hahnville High. Brion James, Brian Stewart-Bennett, and Blake Samaha scored goals for the team. The winning goal keeper was Tobias Dixon. Hahnville's top defenders were Michael Aucoin and Brandon Larousee.
On Dec.12, the boys defeated the South Lafourche Tarpons 4-3. Hahnville's top scorers included Brion James, Blake Samaha, Gee Siqueira, and Daniel Binet. So far, the Tigers are 6-5-1.
HHS' biggest competitors this year include the entire district - Destrehan, Dutchtown, East Ascension and St. Amant.
The team played Morgan City High School on Dec. 23.
