J. B. Martin cheerleaders win top awards
The J.B. Martin cheerleaders won top honors at the UCA Camp at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.

The squad took home various awards during their four-day stay. Those include overall camp champs, outstanding sideline cheer and cheer stunts, hip-hop dancing, best overall extreme routine and several spirit awards.

Sponsor Ellen Orr competed and won the Coaches Challenge award. Because of their exceptional performance, the cheerleaders were also awarded the opportunity to perform at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla. in January 2009.

The 2008-09 cheerleaders are: Kaci Cazenave (captain), Sarah Gonzales (captain), Lydia Chiasson, Cameron Norfleet, Morgan Baudion, Ellen Suss, Katherine Hymel, Kaylin Parker, Kaeli Orr, Kayce Kinler, Maya Gauthier, Rogene’ Lebeauf, Christin Hebert and Brianna Lassere. Sponsors are Ellen Orr and Katie Logan.

Four members of the squad were also chosen as UCA All-Stars and will perform in Houston during the Thanksgiving Day parade. They are: Kaci Cazenave, Lydia Chiasson, Brianna Lassere and Christin Hebert.

Former St. Charles Parish District Attorney Harry Morel Jr., who on Wednesday was accused of preying on more than 20 women, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in federal court.

The obstruction charge stems from allegations that Morel harassed a grand jury witness and attempted to destroy evidence against him.
