Matherne
Sidney James "Snake" Matherne, a native of Evergreen and a resident of Destrehan, for the past 55 years, passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at the age of 83.
Husband of 57 years to his beloved wife the late Ruth T. "Bobbie" Matherne. Son of the late Jules C. and Idee G. Matherne. Brother of AnnaLee M. Verrett of Baton Rouge, the late Lawrence J. Matherne, Mildred M. Martin and Edith M. Tarullo. Father of Sydney M. Martin, Eldon and wife Cheryl, Ronald, Mitchell, and Jimmy and wife Barbara. Grandfather of 16 grandchildren; great-grandfather of 17 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandfather of 1 great-great-grandchild. Special thanks to the staff of Ormond Nursing Home for the care given to him over the years. Sidney served in the Navy Seabees from 1943 to 1946 as a member of the 128th Navconstbatt. Visitation was on Tuesday, Aug.12 at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan. Entombment will follow in the Church Mausoleum.
