Woman killed in River Road crash

On Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 12:36 a.m., the Louisiana State Police Troop B, investigated a single car fatal crash on LA 18 (River Rd.) in St. Charles Parish.

The crash involved a 1996 Buick Regal, driven by Mrs. Denise M. Hawkins (B/F, 30 yrs) of Avondale. The Buick Regal was traveling westbound on LA 18 at which time the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then began to rotate counter clockwise, entering the left drainage ditch at which time it rolled onto its right side.

Hawkins was pronounced dead on the scene. Hawkins was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

It is unknown at this time if driver impairment is a factor in the crash.
