COLLIER
Glay Hood Collier passed away on Saturday, Feb., 23, 2008 at the age of 72.
He is the beloved husband of Sandra Carlisle Collier. Loving father of Glay Hood Collier, II, of Shreveport, La., Gary Carlisle Collier of Los Angeles, Ca., Jack Stodghill Collier of Slidell, La, Keith Davis Collier of Jacksonville, FL. and Deborah Kay Collier Tatum of Laplace La. Son of the late John Ashston Collier and Gladys Blust Collier, of New Orleans, La. Brother of Betty Collier Castigliola, of Gautier, Miss, Edward Wilhite Collier of Mandeville, La and the late Florence Collier Plescila, John "Buddy" Collier and Jack Fredrick Collier. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Glay was born on April 24, 1935 in New Orleans, La.
He graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1953, the year girls were allowed to attend. He served in the Signal Corp of the United States Army during the Korean War as a SP.5. For over 40 years he serviced many of the local restaurants and seafood markets of New Orleans and through the Louisiana and Mississippi area and was the proud owner of Colliers Fisheries in Bayou Des Allemands for over 32 years. He was a founding member of the Louisiana State Seafood Association and introduce various new seafood products to the greater New Orleans area.
He is a 7 year and 2 month survivor of a Lung Transplant and his courage and fighting determination is and always will be an inspiration to his family, friends and other patients. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Ochsner Lung Transplant Unit and ICU for the thoughtful and compassionate care that they provided for our loved one during the last 7 years and 2 months of his life. He will always be missed and his loving spirit will always be in our hearts.
May God bless and hold him with love on his journey to heaven to be with those who have passed on before us. We look forward to the day when our spirits will all be together in the life hereafter. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the Funeral Services at on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006 and Humane Society of Louisiana, P. O. Box 740321, New Orleans, LA 70174.
