Arrests
•Edgardo Lopez, 30, of 705 North Pierce Ave. in Metairie was arrested on Feb. 5 and charged with DWI, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and hit and run.
•Victor LeBlanc Jr., 39, of 112 Sunshine Dr. in St. Rose was arrested on Feb. 1 and charged with DWI, reckless operation, possession of oxycodone and dilaudid and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
•James Veal Jr., 50, of 244 Church St. in Avondale was arrested on Feb. 5 on a warrant for possession of cocaine.
•Victor Sanders, 27, of 408 Little Hope St. in Garyville was arrested on Feb. 6 and charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
•Kwanda Lynne Thompson, 30, of 100 Schoolhouse Rd. in Killona was arrested on Feb. 3 on a warrant for aggravated battery and worthless checks.
•Robert Joseph, 17, of 175 Murphy Lane in Des Allemands was arrested on Feb. 4 on a warrant for 2nd degree battery.
•Carson Paul, 17, of 1413 Hill St. in Homer was arrested on Feb. 1 on a warrant for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
•Heidi Dempster, 31, of 400 Hanson Dr. in Houma was arrested on Feb. 4 on two warrants for issuing worthless checks.
•Kenneth Gray, 41, of 422 Hickory Ave. in Harahan was arrested on Feb. 4 on a warrant for aggravated battery and theft under $300.
•Thomas Ray Williford, 47, 2494 Highway 119 in Melrose was arrested on Feb. 7 and charged with possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone, speeding and open container.
Theft
•An unknown person stole $97.28 from a register at the business located at 14173 U.S. 90 in Boutte on Feb. 5.
•A lap top computer and a global positioning system, valued at $1,520 was stolen from a vehicle parked at 194 Oaklawn Dr. in St. Rose on Feb. 4.
•A .45 caliber handgun, a 9mm handgun, a car tire and a box of bullets, valued at $770, was stolen from a vehicle parked at 121 Lakewood Dr. on Feb. 2.

Legislators vow to help parish fight huge insurance increases - 557 views
Parish President V.J. St. Pierre, along with eight other parish presidents and representatives from five other parishes, visited Washington, D.C. to talk to officials about the potential spike in local flood insurance premiums should large portions of the Biggert-Waters Act be allowed to take effect in October.
