Seniors invited to crime-stop meeting

ST. ROSE - Sheriff Greg Champagne and the St. Charles Council on Aging invite seniors to be their guests at the upcoming Triad Community Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Post #366 at 12188 River Rd. in St. Rose.

The sheriff and members of the Louisiana Attorney General’s office will speak on crime prevention and life planning for seniors.

Test your vote on new voting machines

HAHNVILLE - August 27 through 31 is Voter Education Week as declared by the state legislature.

Brian Champagne, registrar of voters would like to invite parish residents to view new voting machines and test vote at the registrar’s office in Hahnville, beginning August 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Anyone interested in serving as poll commissioner can contact the Clerk of Court’s Office at 985-783-6632. Election Day compensation is $200 per day.

Total number of registered voters parish wide is 32,615.

FREE prostate cancer screenings in Kenner

KENNER - The Esplanade and Ochsner Blood Bank will host a Health Fair at the mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25.

During the fair, Ochsner will offer free screenings and consultations for cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), glucose and blood pressure.

The blood drive is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature free prostate cancer screenings for qualifying men. Blood donors must present a picture ID in order to donate.

All donors will receive a free T-shirt, blood assurance package, and a mini-physical.

Boogie to the beat at Des Allemands dance

DES ALLEMANDS - St. Gertrude Catholic Church will hold a dance on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Father Mac Community Center in Des Allemands.

Open auditions for the ‘Nutcracker’ ballet

Alcoholism council needs YOUR help

PARADIS - The St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Parish in Paradis will hold its annual Family Day Kings and Queens Pageant on Sunday, Aug. 26 at the church hall. The theme is St. John Celebrates the St. Charles Bicentennial. Attire is red, white or blue or a combination of the three.

Entry fee: $40. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. with registration until 1:15 p.m. with the pageant beginning at 1:30 p.m. Admission: $3 and no charge for children under the age of 2.

This free adult theater workshop will be held for four weeks on Tuesdays and Thursday beginning Tuesday, Aug. 28 and ending on Thursday, Sept. 20.
