Only losing two seniors, Coach Shaw is returning experienced players with excellent attitudes and a great desire to be winners. “Getting everybody on the same page at the same time early in the season will mean tremendous success for the team,” reflects Coach Shaw.
“These girls are hard workers,” said Shaw. “As a team we determine what our goals are and what we need to do to get there. During the daily routine of practice, whether it is the fundamental skill of batting, pitching, base running or fielding or weight training we remind each other at that moment why we do, what we do”
“It is important that each girl know that every member on the team plays an intricate part in the success of the team,” shares Coach Shaw. “That means from the pitcher, to the batter, those in the field and the one in the dug out are vital each time the team scores and each time the team wins.”
Good knowledge of the game is required in order to execute skill and coaching directives. “We always tell our players, once the game starts they have to play the game; we can prepare them, but they have to play the game,” said Shaw.
“We are strong and solid in all areas,” shared Shaw. “Of course, like any other team, we would like to continue to get better.” “I am expecting my seniors Courtney Berthelot, Samone Cammon and Kaci Wilson to step up and be leaders.” “These three have great potential to be catalysts in moving the team forward.”
Destrehan participated in Hahnville softball tournament this past weekend and did pretty well. They won three of their four games. The Lady Wildcats have opened their district season with a victory over the John Ehret’s Lady Patriots.
