Boutte man sentenced to life in prison for murder
Larry Thompson of Boutte was recently sentenced to life in prison in connection with the 2014 Christmas shooting of 23-year-old David Scott of Houston.

Thompson was found guilty of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice by a St. Charles Parish jury in July, but was not sentenced at the time.

In December of 2014, Thompson was arrested and charged with shooting Scott to death and a second man in the foot at a Joe Louis Lane bar in Hahnville. Thompson had apparently argued with Scott over him being with his former girlfriend at the bar, according to St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s detectives.

By 12:20 a.m., authorities found Scott dead on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.

With assistance from U.S. Marshals, detectives located Thompson, who was hiding in a Kenner apartment complex, and arrested him. He was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery.

Thompson, 36, received a life sentence to be served without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of his sentence. He was also sentenced to 40 years in prison for obstruction of justice, a term he’ll serve concurrently with his lifetime sentence.

He is serving his prison term at Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.
