Council forms citizens committee to study boat launch sites
The St. Charles Parish Council created the West Bank Boat Launch Citizens Advisory Committee and then tabled canceling the controversial Gator Cove Marina lease deal to keep it among the committee's options for consideration.

Councilman Dick Gibbs got council approval to table the Gator Cove Marina II lease deal rather than cancel it as Parish President Larry Cochran indicated earlier he would seek at Monday’s council meeting.

The move resulted from public opposition to the parish leasing the site for $4,500 a month for 30 years for the proposed public Hwy. 90 Boat Launch on the West Bank.

Gibbs maintained the “whole rollout was done poorly” but should still go before the advisory committee for consideration when it reviews launch sites. He said the council has 60-day leeway to cancel the lease, leaving it the option to table the lease without repercussions.

Gibbs along with council members Wendy Benedetto, Mary Clulee, Billy Woodruff, Marilyn Bellock and Julia Fisher-Perrier all voted to table cancelling the lease.

Hogan along with council members Terrell Wilson and Traci Fletcher voted against the move.

Benedetto got council approval to amend the measure to allow 13, rather than 11, members on the committee. She added two seats – one for a local member of Ducks Unlimited and CCA.

As initially intended, each council member will name a committee member. Cochran will designate two members, as well as a member of his administrative staff to facilitate panel activities.
