St. Charles Herald-Guide named Newspaper of the Year
The St. Charles Herald-Guide won 16 first place awards and was named Newspaper of the Year by the Louisiana Press Association at the organization’s annual awards ceremony on Saturday.

This is the third time the St. Charles Herald-Guide has been named Newspaper of the Year.

The Herald-Guide swept all major editorial awards in Division 5, winning Best News Coverage, Best Overall Sports Coverage, Best Lifestyle Coverage, Best Front Page and Best Overall Website.

Managing Editor Anna Thibodeaux also won first place in both the Best News Story and Best Breaking News Story categories. Sports Editor Ryan Arena took home first place plaques for Best Feature Story and for his work in the Herald-Guide’s football preview section.

“Winning Newspaper of the Year is a huge honor for us and is a testament to the hard work of our staff,” Herald-Guide Publisher Jonathan Menard said. “However, we wouldn’t be able to achieve this recognition without the help we receive from the great people that live in St. Charles Parish. Our community is filled with interesting people who allow us to tell their stories. Because of our partnership with this community, we are able to tell those stories effectively.”

In addition to the Herald-Guide’s editorial awards, the newspaper also received recognition for its success in advertising St. Charles Parish businesses.

Graphic designer Alissa Zerinque won two first place awards in the categories of Best Services Ad, Non-Retail and Best Staff Generated Black & White Ad. Art Director Rodney Anouilh also won first place for Best In-Paper Promotion.

Anouilh and Menard shared a first place award for Best Success Story of an Ad.

“We are St. Charles Parish’s major news source and we are able to use that platform to help our local businesses reach the St. Charles Parish community,” Menard said. “We have a fantastic graphic design department that is able to create print and online ads that capture the attention of our parish’s consumers.”

The Herald-Guide also won top honors for its classified section, Camera Shootout contest and headlines, while taking home 19 second and third place awards. The point total generated by the Herald-Guide’s awards enabled the newspaper to win both the editorial and advertising sweepstakes.
