Former teacher, husband plead guilty to running a meth lab in Luling
Ryan and Kristy Allen, the husband and wife indicted earlier this year on the accusation they established a meth lab at their Luling home where they reside with their seven-year-old child, each pleaded guilty to a charge of operation of a clandestine laboratory.

Both received deferred prison sentences pending any violation of their probation.

In early December, investigators learned the couple was allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine at their residence at 214 Ellington St., according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies searched the location on Jan. 4 and found evidence consistent with the making of the drug. Police also learned the couple’s child resided at the residence. The child was playing at a neighbor’s house when the search and arrests occurred.

Investigators also found four rifles, a shotgun and a loaded handgun.

Both were indicted in February.

Kristy Allen, 37, a former teacher at R.K. Smith Middle School, was sentenced to a deferred five-year prison term and five years active probation. Under the terms of her probation, she has been ordered to undergo an evaluation and receive substance abuse treatment mandated by her probation officer and program director. She was also ordered to pay a fine and court costs of $750 and successfully complete the St. Charles Parish drug court program, as well as must also pay a monthly $60 supervision fee.

Ryan Allen, 42, received a 10-year deferred sentence and five years active probation. His probation terms mirrored those of his wife, with an additional mandated $450 reimbursement to the public defender’s office.

The deferred sentences mean neither will serve prison time unless either violate the terms of their probation.
