OVER THE TOP. A Hahnville High School hurdler practices for the relays.
This just in: The Lady Tiger softball team tucked away another win Tuesday, March 6 against East St. John 2-0. The game was away on East St. John's turf, but that didn't slow down our girls.
Hot hands: Coach Vial complemented Flores, pitcher, for another sweet win because of her strong arm.
Sparkplug: This week all girls played hard, but a few players that stood out with their out-field slugs to Jai Bridges and Jessica Cancienne; who both hit to the fence when up at bat.
What needs work: "We are so pumped up for the Destrehan game. It should be a close game because we are both evenly matched," says senior Chelsey Flores when asked about her anticipation for the up-coming rival game.
Season update: Last week the girls traveled to Wildcat territory to take on the Lady Cats in the rival softball game.Boys Tennis
This just in: Last week our men in purple traveled to CC Morgan to take on their tennis team and came out triumphant in an 8-3 sweep over the opposing team. However, this score does include some extra sets that were played during the match since the score only can get to nine points.
Hot hands: Once again Travis Fillman led the team to victory with 7 aces in his match along with his doubles partner, Aaron Davis, who played extremely well in his matches.
Sparkplug: "As a whole we played hard and executed at all the right times," says Fillman "And we are looking forward to our re-match against E.D. White."
What needs work: Hearing from the players, it should be a close game and the Tigers will have a good challenge so the boys just need to play at their level and don't let up.
Season update: The boys will have matches Friday March 9 against Morgan City High and on the 13th, play DHS in a big match for district stats.Golf
This just in: In a scramble March 6, Hahnville out-played four teams from around the district at the Willodale Country Club golf course. Among the teams were E.D. White, Berwick and Hansen High, who fell short to Hahnville's power house golf team.
Hot hands: Top scorers of the match were senior Dayton Bordelon and junior Andrew Noto.
Sparkplug: Also to contribute to the golf match were the Lady Tiger golfers who dominated the course without even breaking a sweat. Congratulations to all who participated in the match.
What needs work: In unison, the golfers feel that the one component that makes needs work, is in-fact the short game on the course. Staying focused and concentrate on the hole is a key factor in being successful on the green. Like Happy Gilmore said, "it's all in the hips."
Season update: HHS played their next match at Willowdale Country Club.Baseball
This just in: Some teams need more than a saving grace when up against the Hahnville Tigers, like on Tuesday, March 6 when Holy Cross came to Tiger field to play the purple and gold. Unfortunately for them they went home empty handed while the Tigers celebrated a 6-2 victory.
Hot hands: The "hot hands" of the match go to none other than pitcher, Adam Risinger, who barely let a hit in while on the mound.
Sparkplug: Senior, Jordan Stephaney, also stood out on the field and contributed tremendously to the team's success by partaking in many pick-off plays which quickly sent the Holy Cross boys to their bench.
What needs work: "We had higher batting averages and played like a team out there," says players, "but we need to keep up the high morale from win to win."
Season update: The baseball team traveled to a tournament March 9 and 10 in Denim Springs.Girls Tennis
This just in: Once again the Lady Tigers prevailed over E.D. White in an overall score of 6-3 Wednesday March 7 at E.D. White courts.
Hot hands: First seed, Kristen Brannen, played hard to gain points for the overall score of the match. She played calm under pressure and found the victory when things got a little tight.
Sparkplug: In doubles, second seed Kelsie Soudelier, had great success in her matches, winning them all, but also supporting her team in their games.
What needs work: “This week nothing could go wrong for the ladies, even playing down a few players, they totally dominated the court, but also tried to just play for the love of the game,” says Brannen.
Season update: The girls faced-off against Morgan City High.Track
With the track and field season in full swing it's only a matter of time before the Tigers take the track to compete in the Don Raymond Relays on March 16.
This event will take place in Tiger stadium and will host many neighboring schools to commemorate a local hero who is a major part of our St. Charles community.
