Rebowe opens season in "grand" fashion
Tulane outfielder and DHS grad Rustin Rebowe opened the 2007 season with a pinch-hit grand slam in the eighth inning of the Green Wave's victory over SLU on Friday.
Strickland starts, shines
Loyola forward and HHS grad McaArthur Strickland started at forward last Thursday in the Wolfpack's loss to Tougaloo and had 10 points to go along with 4 rebounds, 3 blocks and an assist. He also had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals in the team's loss to Xavier on Saturday.
Baseball NotesLSU pitcher and Destrehan native Michael Bonura pitched an inning a two-thirds, allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out one in the Tigers' victory over St. Mary's on Saturday. Tulane pitcher and HHS grad Aaron Loup pitched a third of an inning, striking out one while allowing a hit in the Green Wave's victory over SLU on Saturday. Louisiana College pitcher and Destrehan native Craig Naquin had an inning pitched with a strikeout and a hit allowed this week for the Wildcats.
Basketball NotesSouthern Miss guard and DHS grad Amber Eugene had 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and a block in the Lady Golden Eagles' victory over Houston on Sunday. She also had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, block and a steal in the team's loss to Rice on Friday. Mississippi College guard and DHS grad Jaszmine Eugene had 7 points, 2 rebounds and an assist in the Choctaws' victory over Louisiana College last Tuesday. He also had 7 points, a rebound and an assist in the team's victory over the University of the Ozarks on Saturday. Copiah-:Lincoln guard and HHS grad Whitney Scott had 5 rebounds and 5 steals in the Lady Wolves' victory over East Central last Thursday.Swimming Notes
LSU junior and DHS grad Kevin Braud placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke, seventh in the 200-yard medley relay and ninth in the 200-yard backstroke in the SEC Championships last Wednesday.

FEMA deadline passes with no new flood rates - 612 views
After indicating they would release new flood insurance rates by June 1 to be applied to local homes under the Biggert-Waters Act, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has said the release of that information will now be delayed.
