New Orleans has just recorded its 21st murder in the first 35 days of the year - and the third murder in one weekend.

One of the victims of a shooting earlier today (as I write this) in the 7th Ward just died (see story in italic type below).

The 21 murders do not include "justifiable homicides" and other violent deaths.

Suspect arrested in the death of a 2-year-old

A 21-year-old local man was arrested and booked with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a two-year-old, the New Orleans Police Department said.

Police said that on Saturday, February 3 a child with trauma to the body died at a hospital.

Police arrested the boyfriend of the child’s mother and booked him in the toddlers death.
