One of the oldest families in St. Charles Parish recently hosted their 27th annual family reunion at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Kenner.

Nearly 200 descendants of Sidney and Malvina Becnel of Destrehan attended the event. Five generations of living descendants participate in the reunion each year, representing the 11 children, 52 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren, 102 great-great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren. The youngest descendant is currently Cline Michael Becnel, son of Hunter Becnel. The youngest descendant in attendance was Bryson James Allen, son of Bethany Waltz.  

This year, the family who traveled the furthest was Nathan and Katie Jennings Carrell and their children Jenna, Mary Anna, and Avery, who traveled from Camberley, England.This year’s activities included family picture boards, a golf tournament, children’s crafts, face painting, raffle baskets, a 50-50 drawing, family Mass, a musical salute to family service members and veterans, dinner and a family variety show.
