Mt. Airy defends Christian tourney crown
For the second year in a row, Mt. Airy Baptist Church of Boutte claimed the championship at the 21st Christian Basketball Tournament, which matches up eight basketball teams from Baptist churches in St. Charles and Jefferson parishes.
Mt. Airy, of Boutte, won the title with a 77-71 victory over Hahnville’s Historic Bethlehem/Bell Baptist Church.
First Baptist Church of Paradis finished third after knocking off Ama’s Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 58-54.
The tournament, which has helped raise more than $20,000 in scholarships, also included teams from Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Marrero, Antioch Baptist Church of Des Allemands, True Vine Baptist Church of Hahnville and Fifth African Baptist Church of St. Rose.
