Home surveillance video leads to Destrehan bank robbery suspect
Home surveillance footage has helped St. Charles Parish deputies track down the alleged getaway driver in a robbery that took place Friday morning in the Capital One Bank parking lot in Destrehan.

At 9 a.m., an employee for a local fast food restaurant went to the bank to deposit cash from overnight receipts. When she got out of her car, she was approached by a man who assaulted her and demanded the money by making the woman think he had a weapon, according to St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne.

After taking the cash, the robber fled to Burguieres Lane where a blue Kia Rondo was waiting for him. The driver of the SUV then sped towards I-310.

After police secured video footage from a nearby homeowner showing the vehicle, a deputy spotted a Kia matching the description on Saturday night.

He pulled over the driver, 19-year-old Denzel Scott, who† was arrested on drug charges. On Sunday detectives were able to piece together additional evidence linking Scott to the robbery, Champagne said.

Scott has been charged with principal to first-degree robbery, not having a driver’s license, resisting arrest by refusing to ID and violation of the controlled dangerous substance law.

Champagne said his office is still attempting to identify the second person involved in the robbery.

“We believe that the perpetrators were familiar with the cash deposit routine of the restaurant employee who was assaulted and robbed,” Champagne said.

The suspect who actually committed the robbery was described as a black male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and black pants. He was around 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighed between 160 to 190 pounds.

Champagne said the robber was in his late teens or early 20s and had short dreads or twists in his hair.

“Deputies and detectives have worked non-stop since this incident occurred,” Champagne said. “In addition to the hard work of deputies, this is yet another example of how home video surveillance cameras are of great assistance to us in solving crimes.”

Anyone with information on this incident should contact Det. Chris Baird at 911.
