Eighth grader Americo Sheppard, is Raymond K. Smith Middle Schoolís Student of the Year. Sheppard is a member of the Jr. Beta Club, participates in school and recreational sports, has received numerous academic awards, is on honor roll and has been named a Top Tiger each year.

Cheryl A. Mayeux and Ashley L. Matherne of Destrehan have been chosen for inclusion in the 2007 edition of Whoís Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Both attended Nicholls State Univeristy.

Fifth grade teacher Shelly Naquin has been chosen as teacher of the year at Norco Elementary 4-6.

Destrehan High School junior Rhea Jones came out on top in the parishís American Legion Oratorical Contest. She will now participate in the regional competition on Feb 14.
