Former HHS star named first team All-Conference

Led West Alabama by averaging 17.3 points

Former Hahnville High School star basketball player Desmond Raymond was named to the All-Gulf South Conference first team after leading West Alabama in scoring by averaging 17.3 points per game.

Raymond, a senior, scored in the double digits in 22 of the 26 games he played in during the season, breaking the 20-point mark 10 times. He scored a career-high 29 points at Union and his 500th career point came against West Florida on Feb. 8.

He led the team in both assists (94) and steals (36).

He ended his career with more than 600 points.

At Hahnville, Raymond helped lead the Tigers to their first Class 5A championship game. In the semifinals, Raymond scored 21 points to lead the Tigers to an upset win over No. 1 seed Huntington.

He was an All-State selection at Hahnville and defensive MVP.
