Des Allemands man named Grand Champion in Mardi Gras parade
Kurt Dempster’s float was named Grand Champion for the 2014 Krewe of Elks of Jefferson Mardi Gras Parade.
Only two years after Dempster’s float had to be rebuilt following an auto accident, he took home the Grand Champion crown in the 2014 parade with a “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme.
In order to perfect the look of the float, Dempster spent numerous hours constructing the outside of the float with real wood to resemble a ship’s hull.

Charles hit the brakes, but could not avoid clipping the back of the car.
“After that, I don’t even know what happened. We must have flipped,” Charles said.
