HHS graduate earns bachelorís degree

Stefania Ivory Lee, a 2008 graduate of Hahnville High School class of 2008, has graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelorís of Science Degree in biomedical engineering on Dec. 14.

She is the daughter of Ferdneit Downing Bailey and Steven Lee and the granddaughter of Ida Mae Downing and Roosevelt Lee Jr.

Throughout her time at Georgia Tech, Stefania made a continuous effort to make an impact on her campus, surroundings and home community. She carried on her musical talents starting freshman year all the way through her time as a senior by playing in the flute and piccolo in marching band, pep band and flute choir. After Hurricane Katrina she volunteered with Project H.O.N.O.R. (Helping Others in New Orleans Rebuild) and Habitat for Humanity with classmates during the 2008-2009 holiday breaks. Because of her academic excellence and selfless contributions, Lee was a 2010 recipient of the Tower Award and the first Unsung Hero Award presented by the Georgia Tech Black Alumni Organization.

In 2011 Stefania joined the illustrious organization of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. and chartered the Sigma Upsilon Chapter in 2013 where she developed her leadership skills as president, vice-president, secretary and community service chair. Additionally, she served on the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s Executive Board as the secretary, parliamentarian and freshman orientation representative.

Through her experiences with Greek Life, Stefania joined a community of people who are committed to bettering themselves and the community around them by hosting and participating in programs such as donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through a Christmas Ball and toy drives, helping spread literacy with Books for Africa and increasing awareness of S.T.E.M. fields at Youth Symposiums with Girl Scouts of America.

Stefania also gained career preparation experience by interning at start-up companies CodeGuard and ECG Studio, where she will continue her career.
