Body pulled out of Mississippi River in Ama
Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a spokesman with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the body was recovered on Thursday at 2 p.m. near the ADM Growmark grain elevator. LaGrange said lead detectives on the case are hesitant to release a name until the body is positively identified.
“Some of the clothing is questionable, so an autopsy is underway to determine who the person is,” LaGrange said. “We don’t want to release anything until we are 100 percent positive of the identity.”
Sources have confirmed the identity of the suspected jumper to the Herald-Guide, but the paper will wait to release the name until authorities are certain.
On Wednesday at 11 a.m., a witness saw a man abruptly pull over his Ford Explorer at the top of the bridge and quickly exit the vehicle.
Without any hesitation, the man ran towards the bridge and dove over the rail into the water below.
LaGrange said that officers found materials inside the Ford Explorer that would seem to identify the driver.
