Believe it: SC Catholic CAN whip J.T. Curtis
Impossible. It's impossible for St. Charles Catholic to beat J.T Curtis, right? Impossible. Just like it was impossible for UCLA to beat USC this past weekend.
Just like it was impossible for the Cincinnati Bearcats to beat undefeated Louisville a few weeks ago. Except for one little thing. In sports NOTHING is impossible!
When John T. Curtis Christian Academy (13-0) and St. Charles Catholic high school (12-2) square off in the Superdome this weekend for the 2A football state championship, neither team will have the advantage of surprise.
Both teams are in the same district and faced each other in the same game last season, the Patriots defeating the Comets in route to their 20th state championship.
Curtis is flashy, loaded with an abundance of blue chip athletes, while St. Charles Catholic just finds ways to get it done playing with tremendous heart, desire and teamwork. What can we expect when these two teams clash in the Superdome this weekend? THE IMPOSSIBLE? Many experts aren't giving the Comets a fighting chance of beating Curtis.
I am going to tell you why you shouldn't be surprised if the Comets upset the perennial power of high school football in Louisiana. Curtis hammered the Comets 41-0 in their regular season district match up in October.
Last week the Comets avenged a late season loss to St. James with a thrilling upset victory over the same St. James team in the Semi Finals. Why can't they get a little pay back against Curtis? Oh I get it, because the Patriots stomped them pretty good in their first match-up you'll probably say it's impossible.
Well, let's just give the 2A state championship to the Patriots right now.
The Patriots are the High School version of the San Francisco 49ers of the late 80's and early 90's . a team that dominates its league during a very special span of time. It is said by many that the mystique of the Curtis program wins a lot of their games.
But one little thing bothers me about this game. "Mystiques" don't strap on helmets. lace up pads. warm up before games. And .If the Comets aren't in awe of Curtis....If Coach Monica calls the perfect game.If every Comet gives his all.Are the Patriots rife for an upset?
Ahhhh, I know, it's impossible. Or is it?
