Harry J. Morel Sr.
Harry J. Morel Sr., 94, passed away on May 12.

He was born in New Orleans on May 8.

Harry served in the Army’s 89th Division Artillery Band, First Trumpet in 1942-43.

He was educated at Gayarre Elementary, S.J. Peters High School and Jesuit High School.

Harry graduated from L.S.U. in 1943 with a Bachelor of Music Education and recieved a Masters in Music Education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1946.

He served as a music instructor for the Orleans Parish School Board for 33 years from 1947 to 1980. Also a professional trumper player, Harry was an orchestra leader and performed in the New Orleans area for 73 years from 1932-2005.

Preceded in death by: wife, Anna Powers Morel, as well as his parents, Harry L. Morel and Mary Elizabeth Bryan.

Survivd by sons: (2): Harry J. Morel, Jr. of Luling (Gwen) and Tommy G. Morel of Destrehan (Sandra). Grandchildren: (11) Michele Morel (Ricky Oubre), Margaret Pelitere (Mike), Mary Beth Hymel (Brett), Leslie Lafredo (Ken), Tommy Morel (Kelley), Gavin Morel (Brecken), Derek Morel (Lauren), Connor Morel (En’Joli), Brandon Morel (Lauren), Deven Morel (Dianna) and Ali Morel. Great-grandchildren: (14) Chloe Pelitere, Cameron Pelitere, Collin Pelitere, Donovan Blair, Nicholas Lafredo, Benjamin Lafredo, Therese Hymel, Camille Hymel, Kylan Morel, Bri’lan Morel, Harper Morel, Evan Morel, Nathan Morel and Thomas S. Morel.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Saturday, May 18. Visitation will be held from 9-11:45 a.m., followed by a Mass in the chapel at noon, celebrant, Father John Finn. Interment in Metairie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
