Chaisson out as port director, Aucoin named successor
The Port of South Louisiana Commission has decided on attorney Paul Aucoin as the port's next executive director.
Aucoin is a resident of Vacherie and a former appointee to the University of Louisiana system board. In addition, he is Chairman of the River Parishes Tourist Commission and serves on the board of directors of the River Region Chamber of Commerce.
The 78-year-old Chaisson is a Destrehan resident and was a longtime judge in the 29th Judicial District Court in St. Charles Parish prior to taking over the leadership of the port. His last contract extension as executive director of the port came in mid-2012 and was for one year at a salary of $192,000.
Chaissonís son, Joel T. Chaisson II, is the St. Charles Parish District Attorney.
The Port of South Louisiana is a 54-mile long port district on the Mississippi River running through St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James Parishes. It is the largest tonnage port in the Western Hemisphere and the cargo shipped through it makes up over 50 percent of all Louisianaís imports and exports.
