Man hit by train after driving around crossing arms, police say

Rudolph Toussant was struck at around 5:45 a.m. on the Union Pacific track on Paul Maillard Road when he was unable to get his truck to start. As the train approached, the man eventually jumped out of his vehicle, but was grazed by either the train or his truck, which was smashed by the collision, according to Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Toussant suffered moderate injuries and was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans.
