Man hit by train after driving around crossing arms, police say
A 27-year-old Maringouin man was hit by a train early Tuesday morning in Luling after he went around flashing crossing arms and stalled on the track, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Rudolph Toussant was struck at around 5:45 a.m. on the Union Pacific track on Paul Maillard Road when he was unable to get his truck to start. As the train approached, the man eventually jumped out of his vehicle, but was grazed by either the train or his truck, which was smashed by the collision, according to Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Toussant suffered moderate injuries and was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans.
