St. Rose man sentenced to 10 years for possession of stolen gun
A 22-year-old St. Rose man who was previously convicted of a felony was sentenced to 10 years in jail after police found him with a stolen firearm.

Damian Blanks was arrested on Aug. 30 and charged with the possession of a stolen firearm and felon carrying an illegal weapon. According to court records, a St. Charles Parish deputy stopped Blank’s vehicle while investigating a burglary in the area. The deputy asked to search the vehicle that Blank’s was riding in and found a black and silver ruger under the passenger’s seat wrapped in a t-shirt.

According to the deputy, Blanks said that the gun was his. The gun had been reported stolen from St. John the Baptist Parish.

Blanks’ last arrest came on April 15 when he and two other men were accused of attempted murder. A 25-year-old St. Rose man was shot numerous times in a drive-by shooting in the Preston Hollow neighborhood in St. Rose and Blanks was arrested for the crime and held on a $300,000 bond. He was later released when the charges were refused by the district attorney’s office for lack of evidence.
