Schools get in on Mardi Gras action
As we prepare to wrap up the Mardi Gras season for 2013 numerous local school are hosting their own parades.
New Sarpy Elementary
New Sarpy Elementary will have a kindergarten parade at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8. Kindergartners will parade and the rest of the school and parents can watch and catch throws. School officials said the event is always fun filled and ask those who can to join them.

Lakewood Elementary School
A Mardi Gras parade will begin at Lakewood Elementary School at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8.
Lakewood also has a black history program the same day beginning at 9:30 a.m.

St. Charles Borromeo School
The Krewe of Kritters will parade at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 at St. Charles Borromeo behind the school. The krewe is made up of the school’s kindergarten classes who will have floats and throws for observers to enjoy.

Mimosa Park Elementary
Ten classes of second graders at Mimosa Park Elementary will make Mardi Gras floats from shoe boxes that they will display in the hall. The second graders will also put on a parade in front of the school on Friday, Feb. 8 at 9:30 a.m.
This year’s theme is "It’s Not a Small World After All."

Five first grade classes at Allemands Elementary will be parading on Friday, Feb. 8 beginning at 2 p.m.
Each class has made a book-themed float and will be throwing trinkets and beads donated to the school by parents.
The parade will be open to other children and the parents.

Luling Elementary
Luling Elementary will be holding their annual Mardi Gras parade on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m. Six kindergarten classes will ride in wagons and throw candy, trinkets and beads to other school children and parents.

Speed patrols return to I-310 after months-long absence - 1725 views
Over the past four months, those who often travel the elevated portions of I-10 and I-310 in St. Charles Parish have noticed a lack of state troopers on the interstate.
