Man sentenced to 5 years in jail for role in Paradis vehicular homicide

A New Iberia man who was involved in a fatal crash on Highway 90 in Paradis was sentenced to five years in jail for his role in a vehicular homicide.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Louis Langlinais III, 45, was speeding westbound down the highway on June 9 when he lost control of his truck near Scott Lane and hit a raised driveway.

The vehicle flipped several times and Langlinais, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. A passenger in Langlinais’ truck, Crystal Hardy, 39, of Youngsville, died in the crash. She was wearing her seat belt.

Authorities say that Langlinais was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Langlinais was sentenced to 10 years in jail, but five years were suspended. When he is released from jail he will be placed on active probation for five years and must pay a fine of $2,000. Langlinais was also ordered to attend one Alcoholics Anonymous meeting a week for five years.

While in jail, Langlinais has been charged with battery on a police officer. On New Year’s Eve, a deputy was attempting to place Langlinais in the proper attire for suicide watch when a scuffle ensued. According to police, Langlinais bit the officer on his right hand, which caused several lacerations.
